Aromatherapy

Welcome to my aromatherapy area. You might wonder what such a scientific person is doing working with aromatherapy. Well, aromatherapy is a powerful branch of herbal medicine with the ability to heal both the body and the mind.
Aromatherapy is great for healing respiratory problems like colds, bronchitis and asthma, and for skin problems like acne, dry skin, and rosacea. Essential oils can be used in fragrant muscle rubs, to ease toothache pain, and as gentle antiseptics. Many oils are helpful for insomnia since their sedative components are absorbed into your body through the lungs.
Additionally, aromatherapy can be emotionally helpful. Throughout history, people have used fragrances to relax, worship, energize themselves, and attract partners. Natural essential oils smell much better than synthetic perfume chemicals and they can be added easily to body oil, lotion, shampoo, or bath salts. Just a few drops of oil in an aroma lamp adds a healing, fragrant ambiance to a room in just moments.
Like traditional herbal medicines, essential oils can be quite powerful. We all know that it's bad to make tea from poison hemlock, but not everyone knows that calamus oil contains a dangerous carcinogen. Some oils are very healing, some are dangerous, and some are both. On this site, I've written an article about how to handle concentrated oils, and provided lists of oils that I consider safe and unsafe. There is also a page of suppliers where you can buy high-quality essential oils. Hopefully this will help you with a safe, happy start into aromatherapy.
